It’s an exciting time to be a corporate hippy

Yes, it’s an exciting time to be a corporate hippy!

What do I mean by that? Well, as creator of Reusable Planet, I have always been a tree-loving hippy chick at heart. But my feet have been planted firmly in the corporate world. The two have not traditionally been synonymous.

But that is changing fast, which is great to see. Single-use was recently announced as the Collins Dictionary 2018 WORD OF THE YEAR. This refers to products that are made to be used once and thrown away. It harks a new level of environmental awareness in the world, and fills me with hope.

I have long wished to be doing something awesome and creative with my career that also makes a positive difference to the planet. With the birth of Reusable Planet, I now get to do this as part of the movement that is bringing these two worlds together.

What I want out of Reusable Planet is not just a job. I want to finish the day knowing that I have made a measurable difference. That someone is reducing their plastic use because of something they have purchased from my website. That someone read my blog article and decided recycling more stuff was easier than they thought. That something I have posted on social media has sparked an interest in someone, somewhere, to think about their every day living habits.

That not only am I selling thoughtful products that have a net positive effect, but that I have made those sustainable living choices easier for other people to make by sharing thoughtful ideas.

You, the consumer, have the power to change everything! Buy better, use better, recycle better. Send an email, make a phone call, and get more corporates to bend their thinking on the choices they make. Talk to your friends. Post about your positive choices. Celebrate Earth Hour. Participate in Plastic Free July. Go ‘strawkling’ or attend a community clean up. Don’t say you, just one person, can’t make a difference. Because you can!
